January is Busy

This has been a busy month. I’ve been applying the finishing touches on my restaurant’s wine list. Check out these if you can find them. I’ve never known what it was like to make love to a bottle of red, but I’m getting closer to finding out. The following are just four samplings and the descriptions I’ve used are on the wine list. Expect it to be professional…no “If this bottle were a woman, it would be blonde and leggy…”

Vincent Girardin Emotions de Terroirs Pinot Noir 2005, France

Beautiful nose of chocolate covered cherries. Medium-bodied, with flavors of dry cherries and candied plum. Dry, lingering finish.

Pascal Jolivet “Attitude” Sauvignon Blanc, 2006 France

Medium-to-full bodied with a nose of lime and American Oak. Elegant flavors of citrus, apple, and wild flowers finish dry, with an airy lingering finish. 87 Points Wine Spectator.

Soos Creek Champoux Vineyard Cabernet Sauvignon, 2005 Washington State

Full Body Cabernet Sauvignon blended with 5% Cabernet Franc. Nose of herb, spice, and black fruits. Tastes of blackberry, fig, and has a lingering, dry finish.

Owl Ridge “Sweeney Valley” Chardonnay 2003, California

Medium-to-full bodied with a sweet apple and pear entry, a silky middle full of explosive apple pie and pear notes tapering to a French oak, butter and custard finish. 400 cases made, Critics Gold Award at the 2005 Critics Challenge International Wine Competition.

Besides the wine tasting, and believe me…if you buy any of those bottles, you’ll know, I’ve been restoring my “Hackintosh”. What is that, you ask? We’ll, it’s a way to run the latest versions of Mac OS on a normal PC. I foo barred mine earlier this week, and have spent a great deal of time getting it back up and running. It’s now running better than ever, and well worth the time invested. No kids, Windows is not for me. Sure, I have to use it at work, but not at home.

Also, in the vein of computers, I have found January to be the perfect time to “get cracking” on all of the computer duties I have delayed over the Holidays. Fixing laptops for employees, updating various web sites, systems administration work at Mom’s office, etc. I’m just glad its almost over.

I found a web site called “Last FM”. Look it up on Google. It is a great place to stream tracks of great songs I’ve told you about (see my posting a few one’s back) so you will know what to by from iTunes or download from other resources, Jeffrey. By the way, hope you feel better.
