Fear & Loathing in G-Vegas

Hello everyone on the WWW! As promised in December, I am ready to come clean on all my activities in the past 5 months. Hopefully, this will shed much light on my constant negligence in maintaining this site:

Since August, I have been pursuing purchasing my “home” during college, Peasant’s Cafe. It was the great atmosphere and shows, combined with my exciting job at WZMB that made me realize I wanted to pursue music as my career.

As of tonight, it has become final that I will NOT be buying this business.

During the fall, I spent all of my spare time writing and tweaking a viable business plan and searching for start-up capital. With HUGE thanks to my parents and Brooks at Cornerstone Bank, I was initially able to secure half of the selling price. I felt like the planets were aligning perfectly, since I have no net worth alive or dead.

In the past couple of weeks, another interested party wired over the owner his asking price…double what I gave him a week prior.

After hearing the news, I was initially crushed, but got the bank and my parents to rally behind me for the money I needed to match the offer.

Tonight, I received word that the other party wired over another 8K above the owner’s asking price. It was at this point my 5 months of work came to a crashing halt.

So what happened? Ahhh, theories here, theories there. Bottom line: I played a little game called Lets Make a Deal. As we all know when gambling, the house always has the winning odds. There was no exception to that rule during this gamble, and like most of us playing Black Jack, I walked home with a few free drinks and nothing to show for my game.

Although initially devastated (this being written only 5 hours after I received word about the wire transfer), I am now setting my next milestone for April.

What does this all mean? Well, so far it means I’m getting my money back from the owner and paying what little interest has accrued on the loan. It also means I’m moving my stuff outta my brother’s apartment in Greenville. I only spent an average of 10 nights a month there and can’t justify spending 300 bucks for that type of storage service!

Greenville is a cool town and I have met some great people and made great memories there. However, it is time to move forward with the lessons learned from this venture and pursue what lies ahead.

I plan on moving out of North Carolina in April or May to pursue my career in the Music Industry. Right now, I have to get on the horn and start working towards the next step in life.

I want to express my sincere thanks for all who gave me advice, free labor, and consultation during this process. I have gained immeasurably great knowledge on How to Start a Business and probably a few extra goodie points on my credit history.

The whole ordeal has been intentionally on the “DL” for many months to insure this process would go as smooth as possible. However, no matter how much careful calculations go into a process, you can never predict all of the curveballs. Tonight has been the first opportunity I have been able to discuss the activities that have kept me so secretive for the past 5 months.

So, here’s to the next step. I PROMISE I will have more to share each week. Until next time…PERSUE!
