November

Seriously, it takes 2.5 weeks to get over bronchitis? That’s insane, but true. I had to get a shot in the ass, a hand full of souped up antibiotics, and a cough syrup I could have sworn was outlawed during the era of Wyatt Earp.

So physically, I am much better, minus the kennel cough I can’t seem to shake.

Papa, my last grandfather passed away this weekend. I am glad I got to see him last weekend before he passed. It kinda sucked seeing him at Duke. His mind was razor sharp, but I couldn’t hear what he was trying to tell me through his oxygen mask. When I left, he gave me that “What the hell” look, like he couldn’t believe I was leaving before he could tell me what he wanted to say. I just couldn’t handle it. I am fine at wakes and funerals. I just can’t hang watching people approaching the end.

He had a military funeral, since he was a vet in WWII. I did get choked up when the soldier gave my Mimi the folded American flag and thanked her for his service to the country. That’s when you could hear all of the sniffling from the family.

I’ve been keeping myself pretty busy at work, so I wouldn’t have to think about it much. It is weird not having anymore grandfathers. No more “elder men” advise. I guess I have to rely a little more on myself and that is probably not such a bad thing for a 28 year old to do.

November starts the busy holiday season for us in the restaurant business. We have a lot of Christmas parties booked up and I am grateful for each one. Also, my boy Luis has booked his wedding reception here this weekend, so I am excited about that as well. My little boy has grown up so fast.

Other than that, I got to play with an iPhone recently. They are awesome and I would buy one, if I didn’t hate Cingular’s cell service so much. Guess I will wait to other carriers get their networks geared up for them over the next three years. I think maybe I should buy a house soon.
