News from the Weekend

On Friday, September 19th, I hit the road for my old roommate, Robert’s wedding. It was imperative that I get their early, since everyone’s tux measurements were wrong when they were tried on.

I got to the mall in Newport News and stared at a black tux with a pink vest. Bubblegum was the exact color, if I remember correctly. Really? I asked the tux guy to be sure. I don’t wear pink, ever really.

The rehearsals at the church went well, even though I didn’t pay attention (more on that later). After that, we headed to the rehearsal dinner, which was a blast. After we all got liquored up, we headed to a local bar where a pop punk band was playing. My whole goal was to get Robert hammered. I bet we took 10 Jager Bombs. Amazingly, the next day, I was not hung over at all.

I was awoken to Robert calling at 11 am and telling me I head to be all “tuxed out” by 2 pm and head to the church. I passed a Fazoli’s restaurant on the way in to town the day before, and decided to hit that up for lunch. I used to be addicted to it when I lived in Denver. Amazingly, I didn’t care for it that much anymore. Their bread sticks still kick ass, though.

After getting to the church and lining up with the 15 year old I was escorting (no, I’m not kidding), it was time to walk down the isle. If I had been paying attention in rehearsals the day before, I wouldn’t have dicked up the beginning of the ceremony. I was supposed to walk the bridesmaid to the center of the alter, and up 3 stairs to Robert. Well, I didn’t walk up the stairs. My bad. After that screw-up, the made of honor’s big assed ear ring fell out of her ear and made a loud thud. I started laughing a little to myself. This was increased when Robert started to choke up his words. Either way, all wedding ceremonies have glitches, but this one was handled pretty well.

After the ceremony, we headed to the reception. It was awesome! I did not drink enough, nor know enough people to cut loose on the dance floor. I did, however, sit back and smile, and drink scotch with the extended family. I also found out Steven (Robert’s brother) and Kristin will be getting married on a cruise ship in the spring. I can’t wait for that one!

Business has been slow at the restaurant. I guess the media has everyone bracing for another Great Depression. Just thinking of that makes me a little depressed myself!

I’m so alone.
